Unique Southwest Sun Symbol in a combination of glass and metal sculpture. Inspired by the Zia tribe sun symbol.
Beautiful hand made sun symbol, authentic Native American design, glass and steel wall hanging. Inspired by Zia Native American Tribe sun symbols. The Zia Nation of northwestern New Mexico is loosely credited with this design and is also featured on New Mexico's state flag. Unique basket weave design carefully applied and fused into art glass. This particular design was created by a Northern Nevada Washoe Tribe basket weaver in the late 1800's.
This glass and steel item is 15" in length and width and the glass center is 5 1/2" around. The steel is cut and welded, then heat is applied with a torch to bring out beautiful colors on the sun design. A clear coating is applied the the surface to prevent rust. Four pieces of art glass are cut, then fused together in a kiln to create a 1/2" thick solid center. The center color of this glass is a soft caramel brown. The design is then painted on the glass by hand using powdered glass and a liquid medium(vitreous enamel). It is fused again and the paint becomes part of the center piece and will not chip or fade...it is forever.
It is finished off with a inconspicuous copper hanger on the back.
